Heavy, slow-moving drums turn opener '\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCarry\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e' into a mantra, '\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFascinating and Fun\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e' grew out of studio improvisation, while on '\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCarnaval\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e' Whitley and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCem Misirlioglu\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e face each other behind two drum kits for what she calls a \"drum rave\". Her unmistakable voice remains at the centre, moving just as easily between restraint and raw power.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAcross the album, Whitley looks at motherhood, womanhood, heartbreak, desire and forgiveness, and at how the past continues to shape who we become.
