But it was as a soul band, one as inspired by the melancholic musings of \u003cstrong\u003eBill Withers\u003c\/strong\u003e as the psychedelic pop of the self-proclaimed “\u003cem\u003eBlack Moses\u003c\/em\u003e,” \u003cstrong\u003eIssac Hayes\u003c\/strong\u003e – that the Equatics shone. These young souls offered world-weary, beat-heavy ballads that stand on par with any of the great independent organisations of the early 1970s.
