By the time \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003e‘softs’\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e was recorded, allan holdsworth had departed the group. The album would feature karl Jenkins (keyboards), John marshall (drums), roy babbington (bass) and new member \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eJohn Etheridge \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e(guitar), along with saxophonist \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAlan Wakeman\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. The album also saw the final appearance on a soft machine album by mike ratledge whose synthesiser contributed to the pieces \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003e‘ban-ban caliban’\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003e‘song of aeolus’\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSoft machine’s final album for harvest was the classic 1978 live record \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003e‘alive and well recorded in Paris’\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. The band’s line-up had changed once more by this point and comprised Karl Jenkins (piano, electric keyboards, synthesiser), John Marshall (drums), John Etheridge (acoustic and electric guitars) and new members \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSteve Cook\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e (bass guitar) and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRic Sanders\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e (violin).
