It featured another \u003cstrong\u003ePeter Saville\u003c\/strong\u003e-designed sleeve but was a consciously more melodic effort than its experimental predecessor (\u003cem\u003eDazzle Ships\u003c\/em\u003e) and was a significant success, charting across Europe and hitting the top 10 at home in the UK.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eProduced by the band and \u003cstrong\u003eBrian Tench\u003c\/strong\u003e (with additional contributions by \u003cstrong\u003eTony Visconti\u003c\/strong\u003e), it was recorded at a variety of locations including \u003cstrong\u003eAIR Studios\u003c\/strong\u003e in Montserrat, which had a newly-acquired, state-of-the-art Fairlight CMI sampler keyboard, and Wisseloord in Hilversum, Netherlands.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eAs intended, \u003cem\u003eJunk Culture\u003c\/em\u003e returned OMD to the upper reaches of the singles charts too, with ‘\u003cem\u003eLocomotion\u003c\/em\u003e’ (top 5 in the UK and top 10 across Europe), ‘\u003cem\u003eTalking Loud and Clear\u003c\/em\u003e’ (No. 11 in the UK,  top 5 in Belgium, the Netherlands and Ireland), and the club hit ‘\u003cem\u003eTesla Girls\u003c\/em\u003e’ (No. 21 in the UK, No. 8 in the Netherlands).
