Matching the music to the mood and tempo of the film’s scenes lay on Miller’s shoulders.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe soundtrack came together in early 1987 in Los Angeles, Miller and Jason Miles working in North Hollywood, and Miles driving in from Malibu to play his parts. Miller brought in a number of players to add solos and texture: guitarists John Scofield and Earl Klugh; flautist James Walker, and drummer Omar Hakim.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe soundtrack got a very positive reception. The Observer lauded it for being “elegiac, \u003cstrong\u003eMiles Davis\u003c\/strong\u003e being use for his remarkable ability to make the trumpet sound like the most wisely sad of all instruments.”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDedicated to arranger \u003cstrong\u003eGil Evans\u003c\/strong\u003e, the music is greatly influenced by his style with Miller creating an electrified but very warm orchestra to accompany Davis's melodic solos.
