Previously in bands such as \u003cstrong\u003eSquares and Triangles\u003c\/strong\u003e, Dungan has since recorded multiple albums under the Blue Lake moniker, including the lauded \u003cem\u003eSun Arcs\u003c\/em\u003e, pursuing his passion for self-built percussion and multi-string instruments. Carøe, meanwhile, is a composer whose film soundtrack work has seen him collaborate with \u003cstrong\u003eAngelo Badalamenti\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eArp\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eSofie Birch\u003c\/strong\u003e, at whose Andersabo residency (curated by Dungan) the pair first met, resulting in the highly praised album \u003cem\u003eRepair Techniques\u003c\/em\u003e, written by Birch and Carøe.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eRoutine\u003c\/em\u003e emerged organically over many years against the backdrop of great personal change. As Carøe said goodbye to his father and welcomed his first child, the pair sent each other fragments of melodies and patterns, working up responses when time allowed to assemble a sonic palette that combined acoustic instrumentation including zither, clarinet, cello and saxophone with the textures of tape, drum machine and Yamaha DX7 synthesizer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInspired by the vulnerability and DIY ethos of \u003cstrong\u003eArthur Russell\u003c\/strong\u003e’s home recordings, the vision of labels like \u003cstrong\u003eDisques de Crépuscule\u003c\/strong\u003e, and the art-pop experimentation of late-'70s and early-'80s recordings from New York and Japan alike, Dungan and Carøe conjured new forms for their folk, leftfield pop and avant-garde influences from the low-lit living rooms of Copenhagen and rural Sweden.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe music floats with grace and humility, remaining sophisticated yet acutely introverted. Across ten instrumental tracks, from \u003cem\u003e“Clouds”\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003e“Routine 1”\u003c\/em\u003e through to \u003cem\u003e“Hymn”\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003e“Chords”\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003e“Silence”\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003e“Reunion”\u003c\/em\u003e, the album evokes the ineffable calm that descends when the light changes and the world turns inwards.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCarøe’s treated cello work provides a distinctive foundation, while Dungan’s zither flourishes reveal more classical influences.
