He was part of Habana Abierta, a pioneer of new Cuban music in Europe. In Madrid, several prominent musicians gathered at La Negra Tomasa for weekly jam sessions, which ultimately led to the formation of \u003cstrong\u003eLos Chocolatinos\u003c\/strong\u003e. After hearing Los Chocolatinos, Ale Gutiérrez joined the group, which included \u003cstrong\u003eYago Salorio\u003c\/strong\u003e (double bass), \u003cstrong\u003eJulián Olivares\u003c\/strong\u003e (guitar), \u003cstrong\u003eRodrigo \"El Niño\"\u003c\/strong\u003e (drums and pailas), and \u003cstrong\u003ePepe Prat\u003c\/strong\u003e (congas). This collaboration became the foundation for El Combo Batanga, connecting Cuban musicians in Madrid.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn 2018, Rodrigo \"El Niño\" assembled a band to support \u003cstrong\u003eJoe Bataan\u003c\/strong\u003e on tour, bringing in additional musicians for a rich brass section and keyboard.
