Hynes has been living in New York City for the past three years where he has been concentrating on writing and producing for other artists. David\u003c\/strong\u003e, Hynes took the songs that form \u003cem data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"894\"\u003eCoastal Grooves\u003c\/em\u003e on a trip to the West Coast where he started turning the ideas into an album with producer \u003cstrong data-start=\"986\" data-end=\"1006\"\u003eAriel Rechtshaid\u003c\/strong\u003e in LA. Alongside the music he heard playing in after-hours bars, Hynes drew inspiration from the identity blurring work of transgender icons such as \u003cstrong data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1179\"\u003eOctavia St. Laurent\u003c\/strong\u003e and the playful high-gloss nihilism of \u003cstrong data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1234\"\u003eGregg Araki\u003c\/strong\u003e movies.
