Their follow-up project, BB \u0026amp; Q Band, released four albums between 1981 and 1986.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eGenie\u003c\/em\u003e, released in 1986, was co-produced by Petrus and written and produced by multi-instrumentalist \u003cstrong\u003eKae Williams II\u003c\/strong\u003e, a member of the funk-soul group \u003cstrong\u003eBreakwater\u003c\/strong\u003e. The album features lead vocals by \u003cstrong\u003eCurtis Hairston\u003c\/strong\u003e, with backing vocals by \u003cstrong\u003eUllanda McCullough\u003c\/strong\u003e, guitar by \u003cstrong\u003eMike Campbell\u003c\/strong\u003e, and bass by \u003cstrong\u003eTimmy Allen\u003c\/strong\u003e. Hairston’s smooth vocal style, often compared to Luther Vandross and \u003cstrong\u003ePeabo Bryson\u003c\/strong\u003e, later led to solo success with his self-titled 1986 album.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eGenie\u003c\/em\u003e includes the singles \u003cem\u003eGenie\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eMinutes Away\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003e(I’m A) Dreamer\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eMain Attraction\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eOn The Shelf\u003c\/em\u003e, and \u003cem\u003eRiccochet\u003c\/em\u003e. \u003cem\u003eGenie\u003c\/em\u003e is a mid-tempo boogie track with that signature ’80s 808 sound and became a dancefloor classic that inspired many releases of the era. \u003cem\u003e(I’m A) Dreamer\u003c\/em\u003e, titled simply \u003cem\u003eDreamer\u003c\/em\u003e on European editions, became the album’s biggest single, thanks in part to the extended vocal remix by Shep Pettibone, whose work with artists like Madonna shaped the sound of modern dance music.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNow, BB \u0026amp; Q Band’s \u003cem\u003eGenie\u003c\/em\u003e is reissued for the first time, celebrating its 40th anniversary as an expanded 2LP edition. The original 1986 album is included in full, alongside a rich selection of bonus material.
